NFL: Moss clears air with mates

Redskins receiver Santana Moss told a small group of teammates last week that he received treatments from the Canadian doctor charged with smuggling and supplying human growth hormone. The former Jet portrayed the treatments as routine — and not involving banned substances — according to teammate Phillip Daniels.

“I believe he’s telling us the truth,” Daniels said. “He got, like, three treatments, and who knows what happened after that.”

* Jarvis Williams, a former defensive back for the Giants (1994) and Dolphins (1988-93), died Tuesday night in north Florida. He was 45. The cause of death was an acute asthma attack.

* Ex-Jet tight end Kevin Brock signed with the Cowboys a day after being released by the Bears.

* A judge in Manhattan dismissed a lawsuit by two photographers who said they were shot at by bodyguards of Patriots QB Tom Brady and Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen. The April 2009 incident occurred during a party in Costa Rica celebrating the celebrity couple’s marriage two months earlier. The judge said the matter “would be better adjudicated in Costa Rica.”

FRENCH OPEN: Federer wins

Defending champions Roger Federer and Svetlana Kuznetsova and No. 2 seed Venus Williams advanced yesterday to the third round of the French Open.

Federer defeated Colombia’s Alejandro Falla 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, 6-4. Kuznetsova, the sixth seed, survived four match points before defeating Germany’s Andrea Petkovic 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. Williams beat Spain’s Arantxa Parra Santonja 6-2, 6-4.

HOOPS: Johnnies Alaska-bound

St. John’s will be on the court for the 2010 Great Alaska Shootout on Nov. 24-27. Steve Cobb, athletic director for tournament host Alaska-Anchorage, says the field also will include Arizona State, Ball State, Drake, Houston Baptist, Southern Utah and Weber State.

* Rutgers assistant women’s coach Ron Hughey resigned to take a job on the coaching staff at Texas.

* A jury in Minneapolis awarded Jimmy Williams, then an assistant coach at Oklahoma State, nearly $1.25 million in his lawsuit against Minnesota coach Tubby Smith over an aborted hiring.
