The Securities and Ex change Commission is moving to bar investor Steven Rattner, the founder of private-equity firm Quadrangle Group who is being investigated for his role in a suspected kickback scheme, from working in the securities industry for up to three years.

Broker bust

Steven Mandala, a for mer Merrill Lynch broker who bought a Ferrari with some of the $780,000 he stole from the company, will spend between two years and six years in prison, a New York judge ruled.

Viacom suit

Viacom was sued by Family Suites Resort, which alleges the com pany breached a contract by licensing its Nickel odeon cable brand to a rival hotel chain, seeking $180 million in damages.

Liz pays

A federal judge said Liz Claiborne Inc.’s popular denim line Lucky Brand Dungarees infringes on a Miami company’s trade mark and ordered the clothier to pay $300,000 in damages.

Target will start selling Amazon.com’s best-sell ing Kindle e-reader in all of its stores on Sunday.
