Using their new game 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, EA predicted that Spain will win its first-ever World Cup, drilling five-time champion Brazil 3-1 in the July 11 final at Soccer City.
The computer predicted that Spain’s David Villa would win the Golden Boot as the World Cup’s top scorer with seven goals, while Brazil star Kaka was named the Golden Ball winner as the tournament’s best player.
As far as the United States, the Yanks advanced out of Group C only to fall to Germany in the Round of 16. The U.S. lost its opening match 2-1 to England, but despite the fact only 3-of-32 teams that’d dropped their opener had advanced since 1998, that didn’t deter the Yanks.
The U.S. shut out Slovenia 2-0 and edged Algeria 2-1 to advance, playing Germany to a 2-2 draw before finally falling 3-1 in a penalty shootout. CONCACAF rival Mexico lost to Argentina in the Round of 16.
