Daniel Murphy was carried off the field last night for Triple-A Buffalo after Syracuse’s Leonard Davis slid into Murphy trying to break up a double play.
Murphy, who played his first game at second base on Tuesday, was not a serious candidate to take Luis Castillo’s spot should the Mets make a DL move, but now the team has to worry about Murphy’s availability for the remainder of the season. Murphy reportedly could not put weight on his right leg as he was helped from the field last night.
“I don’t think it’s real good,” Bisons manager Ken Oberkfell told the Buffalo News last night. “I haven’t heard anything from back there [the training room] yet but he was pretty banged up on the play. The way he turned the double play was nice. He made the right pivot. It just looked like the guy got there late and when Murph came down he never got out of the way once he planted his foot.
“It was a roll slide but it was one of those things where he kind of watched the throw rather than getting out of the way. It sucks. It’s tough but it’s part of the game. He was pretty sore and he was mad too, mad at himself for anything for not getting out of the way. It’s tough to lose him and lose his bat out of the lineup.”
