GRID: Dayne memorabilia stolen
Heisman Trophy winner Ron Dayne says his Rose Bowl rings, a bracelet commemorating his selection as the top player in college football and other items worth more than $140,000 have been stolen.
The former University of Wisconsin and Giant running back said that his two bowl rings and other jewelry were stolen from his home in a Madison, Wis., suburb in April. Last weekend, an apartment in Madison where Dayne lived with a roommate was also burglarized, costing him the bracelet.

BASEBALL: Red Sox topple A’s
David Ortiz hit a two-run homer to help Boston rally for the second straight game, and Daisuke Matsuzaka settled down to beat the Athletics 6-4 at Fenway Park.
* David Price (8-2) became the American League’s first eight-game winner, Carl Crawford hit a grand slam and the Rays rallied in the ninth inning again, beating the Blue Jays 7-3 in Toronto.
* In Atlanta, Omar Infante came in for injured Chipper Jones and lined a two-out, run-scoring single in the eighth inning to back Derek Lowe‘s best outing of the season, leading the Braves to their eighth straight win, 2-1 over the slumping Phillies.
* Angels right fielder Bobby Abreu hit his 500th career double in Kansas City.
* Louisville coach Dan McDonnell was suspended for three games by the NCAA for inappropriate conduct during a loss to St. John’s in the Big East tourney semi.

Juan Pablo Angel scored with seconds left in extra time to give the Red Bulls a 2-1 victory over the Dynamo in Harrison, snapping a four-game losing streak.

* Rutgers hired Van Macon as an assistant coach on the men’s basketball team. New coach Mike Rice announced the hiring of the long-time Hofstra assistant.
* Lance Armstrong finished in fifth place in the Tour of Luxembourg prologue.
* Two-time Olympic champ Haile Gebrselassie will make his debut in the NYC Marathon on Nov. 7.
* Vijay Singh won’t have to go through qualifying to play in the U.S. Open in two weeks at Pebble Beach. The USGA granted Singh an exemption.
