Marts alive
The Dow Jones indus trial average staged a tri ple-digit comeback — gaining 123.49 points to close at 9,939.98. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index rose 11.53 points to 1,062.00, but the Nasdaq Composite Index dropped 3.33 points to 2,170.57. Gold futures rose to their highest-ever set tlement as the August contract rose $4.80 to set tle at $1,245.60 a troy ounce on the Nymex.
GM recall
General Motors re called about 1.5 million vehicles worldwide yes terday to address a prob lem with a heated wind shield wiper fluid system that could lead to a fire.
BP crisis
BP came within a penny of hitting their March 2009 low of $34.15 yesterday before slightly rising $2.08 to close at $34.68.

McDonald’s reported a stronger-than-expected 4.8 percent rise in world wide May sales, crediting new menu options.
Play on
Take-Two Interactive reported better-than-ex pected earnings in the fis cal second quarter that ended April 30, posting a net profit of $16.8 million, versus a year-ago net loss of $10.1 million.
