The wife of CNN yakker Larry King reportedly overdosed on pills in her Utah home, prompting her dad to frantically call 911 in search of help.
“I can’t wake her up,” Shawn Southwick’s father Karl Engemann told a 911 operator when he found his daughter unresponsive at her Provo home, according to a report on RadarOnline.com.
The website reported that Southwick, 50, has taken too many pills on the evening of May 28.
“She may have overmedicated,” Engemann told the 911 operator at 11:30 p.m. “I don’t think she did it on purpose. Last night she seemed confused about what she had taken, the last time she had taken it.”
King, 76, and his wife filed for divorce on April 14. After spending some time apart amid reports of infidelity on both sides, the couple reconciled — but it’s far from a happy marriage, sources told RadarOnline.
The couple have two sons, Chance, 11, and Cannon, 9.
However, Engemann, 76, said his daughter was not trying to commit suicide.
“No, no. No, it wouldn’t be suicidal,” he says.
Engemann, 76, was calm throughout the call, following instructions until an ambulance arrived.
He said his daughter was taking medication for depression.
“She’s unconscious. I slap her and … she opens her eyes half way and puts them back down again,” he said.
“I left my daughter here last night and she was fine,” he added. “I come this morning she’s supposed to have a meeting in a while and she just seems to be out of it.”
The cable news talk-show host wed Southwick in September 1997 — making it marriage No. 8 for him — while he was in the hospital awaiting heart surgery to unclog a blood vessel.
