The hype for the 2010 season is well under way, and prog- nosticators already are smitten with the Jets’ chances to win the Super Bowl.
In one of the first magazine forecasts for the 2010 NFL season, the Sporting News is predicting a Jets Super Bowl victory.
The magazine has the Jets defeating the Cowboys in the Super Bowl on Feb. 6 in Arlington.
The Sporting News predicts the Cowboys will go 12-4, matching the Vikings and Falcons for the NFC’s best record. It has the Jets going 13-3, one win more than the Colts and Chargers in the AFC.
It must sound good to Jets fans — at least those who choose to forget the lead-up to the 1999 season, when virtually everyone was predicting a Jets Super Bowl after they’d lost to the Broncos in the AFC Championship Game the previous year.
Tortured Jets historians remember the rest: A Vinny Testaverde ruptured Achilles tendon in the season opener, then Tom Tupa, then Rick Mirer, then Ray Lucas and finally a disappointing, playoff-less 8-8 season.

Coach Rex Ryan, at the Mets-Padres game last night at Citi Field, said it was a relief to have Darrelle Revis at mini-camp yesterday even though the All-Pro cornerback still has a contract dispute.
“[Revis] made like three interceptions today — one of them is not possible to make, so it’s always good to see him out there,” Ryan said.
Ryan said he’s not worried about Revis’ contract becoming an issue with the team.
“That is somebody else’s job,” he said.
“I just hope it’s going to work out for both sides where both sides are happy. I think he’s the best corner in football, and it’s a lot easier to win with him.”

Ryan, donning Mets jersey No. 30 in honor of Nolan Ryan, threw out the ceremonial first pitch, managing to reach home plate from the rubber. Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum wore No. 15 in honor of Jerry Grote and caught Ryan’s heave just off the corner.
The rotund righty joked that he asked his players how many thought he would throw a strike, and only two hands went up.
“I’ve never pitched before a day in my life,” Ryan said.
