The Nazareth girls basketball team will make its new home in CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens Division I next season, The Post has learned.
Their placement was made official at a league meeting Tuesday night. None of the league’s athletic directors opposed the decision, according to CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens girls president Denise Hilig.
“The last piece of the puzzle,” Nazareth coach Apache Paschall said. “We are really looking forward to a new beginning.”
The announcement completes the journey of the former St. Michael Academy coach and his players after the Manhattan school announced it would be closing its doors in March. Nazareth became the perennial nationally ranked club’s destination in early Mary.
The Lady Kingsmen will now get the opportunity to play against the likes of New York State Federation Class AA champion Christ the King, Mary Louis, Bishop Ford and Archbishop Molloy at least twice a year. St. Michael Academy won the New York State Federation Class AA crown in 2009.
“It’s only going to improve the competition in the league,” Hillig said. “Division I only becomes that much stronger.”
