Queen Elizabeth II will pay tribute to the victims of the 9/11 terror attacks in a visit to New York City’s Ground Zero next month, a Buckingham Palace spokesman confirmed Wednesday.
The queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, 89, will visit the U.S. on July 6, following an eight day tour of Canada.
The queen is expected to meet with relatives of the victims and lay a wreath at the site.
In New York the monarch will also address 192 members of the United Nations General Assembly for only the second time in her reign. Her first speech to the body was in 1957.
The Royal party will then immediately return to London.
