Marcus Thames was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring. The Yankees called up Chad Huffman, who made his Major League debut in right field.
Thames said he the hamstring has been bothering him for about a week and he was getting treatment on it. But he felt it grab on him in the third inning of yesterday’s game on Jeff Keppinger’s double to the corner in left.
“I felt it grab a little bit,” Thames said. “I thought it was going to release but it never did. I popped the ball up and trying to get around the bases I felt like I was running in slow motion. I know I’m not that slow. It just wouldn’t release on me.”
The 25-year-old Huffman batted .279 for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with five home runs and 22 RBIs. He can play either corner outfield spot and first base.
