NFL: Titans’ Young apologizes for brawl
Vince Young apologized to the Titans, his teammates, his family and fans for his role in a fight at a Dallas strip club. The quarterback said yesterday he made a mistake being at the club. Surveillance video footage released by Dallas police show the quarterback and several people talking in a small room before Young attacked someone in the room.
“I pray to God that [commissioner] Roger Goodell doesn’t come down hard on me, because I definitely want to be here for my teammates,” said Young, who hopes the incident won’t result in a suspension.

LeBron James has not spoken to Michigan State’s Tom Izzo about Cleveland’s coaching vacancy, and the two-time MVP has no plans get involved in the Cavaliers’ search, a source said. Izzo is weighing a jump to the NBA and would like some clarity on James’ plans for free agency.

MLB: Strasburg named player of week
Nationals rookie sensation Stephen Strasburg was named National League player of the week after he went 2-0 with 22 strikeouts and a 2.19 ERA in his two major league starts.

In Springfield, Ill., Cristie Kerr held off late challenges by Anna Nordqvist and Na Yeon Choi at the rain-delayed LPGA State Farm Classic, shooting a 3-under 69 in the final round at Panther Creek Country Club to secure the first LPGA Tour victory by an American since Michelle Wie won the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in November.
* Sharks captain Rob Blake, 40, is retiring after a 20-year career as one of the NHL’s top defensemen. . . . The Maple Leafs named defenseman Dion Phaneuf as captain.
