Cup spat ends in sudden death

JOHANNESBURG — A South African man who wanted to watch a World Cup match on TV instead of a gospel program was beaten to death by his family, police said.

David Makoeya, 61, from the small village of Makweya, fought with his wife and two children for the remote control on Sunday because he wanted to watch Germany play Australia in the World Cup.

His 68-year-old wife and two children, ages 36 and 23, apparently banged his head against the wall, police said.
