Report: Orioles discuss hiring former Mets manager Johnson

It’s a job no one wants, and the Orioles are trying to find someone who worked in New York to take it.

In the latest news surrounding Baltimore’s managerial position, SI.com reports the team has discussed bringing back Davey Johnson to fill the position.

Johnson coached the Orioles to the playoffs in 1997 and is best remembered for leading the Mets to a World Series title in 1986. He hasn’t managed in the majors since 2000.

SI.com says the Orioles are looking for an experienced manager; they have also expressed interest in former Yankees manager Buck Showalter and former Mets manager Bobby Valentine.

However, one baseball executive told SI.com the position is “hell,” and Orioles owner Peter Angelos is known for not getting along with his managers.

“Let’s be honest, I’m not sure this gig’s for everyone,” Orioles president Andy McPhail told SI.com. “We may have more interest in some guys than they have in us.”
