Bam’s big BP bash: call It ‘crude leadership’

* What I got from President Obama’s speech Tuesday is that he wants to take this country in a new direction (“Mr. Slick!” June 16).

Obama doesn’t know where he wants to go or how or when we will get there, but he assures us that we will get there. Now that’s leadership!

* Let me sum up Obama’s address to the nation: Blame BP; appoint a czar; form a commission; blame President George W. Bush and push cap-and-trade.

The American people are getting tired of the same old story.

We need a commander-in-chief, not a complainer-in-chief. Wake up, Obama.

* After watching the events of the week and the way he is handling the oil crisis, I believe Obama will go to any length to push his agenda and destroy our country.

* Obama sounded good, even tough. He said all of the right things, like that BP was reckless, and vowed to make BP pay for all of the damages it has caused.

But can Obama produce results? If he fails to deliver, he’ll be in an even worse situation than he is today.

No matter how tough they are, mere words are not enough.

* It’s time we took some collective responsibility for the oil spill.

BP and others were doing our bidding in collecting oil in the gulf. But only now are we putting our hands to our mouths, gasping, “Drilling for oil sometimes results in dangerous spills? I had no idea. Shame on BP!”

Give me a break. Alternative energy is the long-overdue answer.

* We need real leadership in the future, and our new technologies should be Earth-friendly.

Keep the green jobs here as an example, and other countries will follow.

Let’s keep America great.

* In his prime-time speech Tuesday, Obama neglected to mention that BP will stop that oil gusher long before Carlos Beltran puts on his Mets uniform.

* Obama’s Oval Office address was little more than what has become meaningless talk, this time promoting the administration’s “never let a crisis go to waste” mantra to further his green, economy-busting plan.

Nothing was said about waiving the Jones Act to attract all the outside help we can to clean up and control the disaster, and nothing was said about using the underground nuclear option the Russians reportedly have used to seal similar uncontrolled gushers.

If the president and Congress don’t adjust to increasing our domestic-oil production and refineries, our reliance on imported oil and the price of gas will continue to increase.

* The president’s speech is another example of his arrogance and weakness.

In typical Obama fashion, he “talked tough,” blamed others and lectured us about the lessons we have learned.

At a time when the country is looking for him to display leadership, Obama plays a stern schoolmaster admonishing his young pupils.
