Planet pilfer
A thief has stolen yet another bag from a locker at the Planet Fitness on Duffield Street.
This time, the physically active victim had finished his workout at the gym between Fulton and Willoughby streets on June 15 at around 3:15 pm and returned to his locker, which he had secured with a combination lock. Nevertheless, his bag, containing a cellphone and an assortment of credit cards, was gone.
The gym has given thieves quite a workout lately — it regularly appears in the police blotter.
Egged
A thief was caught redhanded stealing merchandise from a Jay Street boutique that specializes in clothes for babies on June 14.
A witness said he was strolling between Water and Front streets at around 5 pm when he saw the not so cunning thief emerge from a window of the store, called “Egg by Suzan Lazar” (“Nurture your baby in style”), with a bag full of merch for tots. The witness gave chase and even managed to flag down a cop, but the thief escaped.
Campy
A thief took advantage of an absentminded party animal at the Smith Street bar Camp on June 18 and stole her purse.
The victim told cops that she left her bag on a chair at the watering hole between Wyckoff and Warren streets at around 11:30 pm. When she returned to the chair roughly 40 minutes later, it was gone.
The bag contained an iPhone, an assortment of IDs and credit cards and $50.
An almost identical incident went down at the same bar last month.
Under the bridge
A thief swiped a woman’s purse from her stroller while she enjoyed bucolic Brooklyn Bridge Park on June 19.
The victim told cops that she was walking in the park near Water and Washington streets at around 3:30 pm when she placed her bag in the back of the stroller. When she went to retrieve it minutes later, the bag, containing an assortment of credit cards, a camera, and $60, was gone. She said she has no idea how the thief got the purse — she never took her eyes off the stroller.
Jipped
A thug attacked a jogger on Third Avenue on June 19, but was later arrested.
The 21 year-old victim told cops he was between State and Schermerhorn streets at around 2:40 pm when the brigand clocked him with a metal stick, cutting his face. The assailant was arrested by Officer Wenjian Liu minutes later.
Cell without bars
A thug bashed a worker at a kiosk on Willoughby Street and stole some cellphone accoutrement on June 18.
The victim told cops that he was working at a stand at Adams Street at around 1 pm when the brigand punched him in the face, grabbed him by the collar and stole $150 from his shirt pocket. The jerk then snatched 20 cellphone cases from his kiosk and took off.
Duly noted
A thief swiped a woman’s wallet while she shopped at a Court Street boutique on June 17.
The victim told cops that she was in “Eyvette Boutique” near Joralemon Street at around 2 pm when the thief must have struck — though she didn’t realize her wallet was missing until her credit card company notified her later that evening. She said her Louis Vuiton wallet — valued at a whopping $500 — contained a whopping $1,500 and a notary public license.
iGrab
A cunning thief swiped a woman’s iPhone from her hand as the 4 train pulled into the Borough Hall station on June 15.
The 22-year-old victim told cops she was on a Utica Avenue-bound train at around 8:30 pm when the crafty creep sneaked up from behind and made his move. The thief then escaped through the station.
Paymore shoes
A lady-thief tried to steal a pair of shoes from the Payless Shoes on the Fulton Mall and ended up getting in a scuffle with an employee on June 15.
The scratched-up shoe saleswoman told cops that she noticed the unsubtle thief trying to hide a pair of $42 shoes in her bag at the store between Lawrence and Jay streets at around noon. The worker then confronted the thief, and the pair briefly struggled over the shoes. The suspect didn’t get the footwear, but did escape before cops arrived.
