A Queens teenager who was raped by six men after one of them befriended her on the Internet today said she lost her trust in people and the world before seeing the ringleader sentenced to 40 years in prison.
As the now 18-year-old victim became enamored with Harpreet Singh online and he induced her to send him increasing revealing pictures.
Then, in June 2008, he threatened to post nude pictures of her on the Internet unless she had sex with him.
She met Singh at a house on 71st Street in Jackson Heights where Singh raped and abused her — and then five of his friends took turns with the victim as she wept and begged them to stop.
“I still hurt over the fact that a trusted, once beloved friend left me alone to be passed around,” she told Queens Supreme Court Justice Robert Kohm. “Every time I try to forget the horror I was subject to, I hear myself screaming . . .I see their smiling grins as I cry and plead.”
She said she was forced to change schools and was bullied by a friend who told her she wasn’t raped because she didn’t fight back.
Singh was found guilty on June 4 of 13 counts of rape as well as sexual abuse, unlawful sexual act and coercion.
Four of the other rapists have already pleaded guilty. The sixth suspect in the crime is on the lam.
