Video of the biggest goal in U.S. history

The latest goal the United States has ever scored in the World Cup turned out to be the biggest and most important. Landon Donovan’s 91st-minute strike gave the United States a 1-0 win over Algeria and sent them through to the Round of 16.

Here is a YouTube clip of the play, and Donovan’s interview afterward. A soccer fan reminded me just the other day of my favorite Maya Angelou quote: “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.” Donovan’s strike was certainly one of those rare moments.
