Apple is telling its customers that they don’t just need to think different — they need to hold their new iPhones different as well to avoid the reception-killing “death grip.”
Users who bought the hot new gadget Thursday got them home to find dropped calls and lost signal bars as they held it to make calls — and the highest-tech answer the company has so far come up with is to just hold the phone another way.
“Gripping any mobile phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas,” Apple said in a statement.
“If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band.”
