After a three-week MLS hiatus for the World Cup, the Red Bulls return to league play tomorrow at Kansas City (8:30 p.m,, MSG). They’re looking to keep pace with Columbus Crew atop the Eastern Conference, and will reportedly get some huge help in the transfer window in the form of Thierry Henry.
The Red Bulls sit even with Columbus atop the Eastern Conference with 21 points, but are expected to pump heavy infusions of cash _ and they hope talent _ into their roster. The Daily Mirror has reported that Henry _ France’s all-time leading scorer _ has rejected a return to Barcelona or a move to West Ham and signed a two-year contract with the Red Bulls.
Henry was marginalized by France coach Raymond Domenech, but few doubt that he would terrorize defenses in MLS, especially when paired up front with New York’s all-time leading scorer Juan Pablo Angel. The club is also looking toward Europe to bring in an attack-minded midfielder to provide service.
Kansas City has offered a deal to Eidur Gudjohnsen.
