CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — A Long Island legislator will served 18 months in federal prison for failing to report on his taxes $226,000 he received from a developer.
Nassau County Legislator Roger Corbin was sentenced Monday. Federal Judge Sandra Feuerstein also ordered Corbin to serve three years of supervised release after his prison term and to undergo gambling counseling.
She noted that Corbin took the money in 70 installments over a four-year period and then lied about it.
Corbin was ordered to repay the state and federal government $92,000 in back taxes on the $226,000.
Corbin pleaded guilty in January to filing false tax returns, income-tax evasion and lying to federal agents.
