Mets are Amazin’ at the Bed-Stuy Y

They’re even more Amazin’ with a brush.

A day after trounching the Tigers, the New York Mets came to Brooklyn to paint the town red — and the roof of the Bedford Stuyvesant Y white!

Outfielder Jason Bay, first baseman Ike Davis and pitchers Hisanori Takahashi and Jonathon Niese swapped their uniforms for civvies and teamed up with other vollies to give the roof of the Y on Bedford Avenue, at Monroe Street, a lick o’ reflective coating for their Teammates in the Community Week good deed, and as part of the city’s Cool Roofs Program.

The crew wielded their rollers, military-style, without missing a beat until the entire span was covered in white. The color reflects heat instead of absorbing it like dark roofs, resulting in lower energy bills as cooling is more energy-sapping and expensive than heating.

The initiative is among other pro-environment measures in Mayor Bloomberg’s PlaNYC campaign to make the Big Apple greener by 2030 by reducing greenhouse gases, lowering temps and keeping energy costs down.
