SCRANTON, Pa. — After being scratched from a start for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last night, Dustin Moseley could be on his way to The Bronx.
The 28-year-old right-hander, who is 4-4 with a 4.21 ERA in 12 starts, was a late healthy scratch from his start against Rochester in favor of Kei Igawa. Because Moseley has an opt-out clause in his contract if he isn’t on the major league roster by Thursday, there’s a good chance he will be promoted in the next 48 hours.
As of last night, though, Yankees GM Brian Cashman said no decision had been made.
After last night’s game, Moseley said he was surprised to be held out.
“Yeah, because I was about all the way through my routine,” he said. “I was about to head out to the field in about 15, 20 minutes.”
Chan Ho Park, Chad Gaudin and Boone Logan are candidates to be jettisoned to make room for Moseley in the Yankees’ bullpen. Since signing in the offseason, Park has been a disaster, going 1-1 with a 7.04 ERA in 19 games, while Gaudin (0-3, 6.89) hasn’t been much better.
If the Yankees decide not to release Park or Gaudin, they could send Logan to Triple-A, since the left-hander has options remaining. — With Brian Costello
