MLB: Braves get to Strasburg in 7th
In Atlanta, star Nationals rookie Stephen Strasburg had his toughest big league start in his fifth outing, allowing four runs — all in the seventh inning — and taking the loss in a 5-0 Braves victory. Strasburg (2-2) gave up six hits in 6 1/3 innings and struck out seven. The Nationals have scored one run combined in Strasburg’s last three starts.
* Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano, who has been suspended by the team since Friday, will be placed on the restricted list and likely will not be activated until after the All-Star break at the earliest.
* Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is expected to miss six weeks with his broken left foot, but the team said pitcher Clay Buchholz (strained left hamstring) might be able to avoid a trip to the disabled list. . . . Braves rookie Jason Heyward was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a deep bone bruise in his left thumb.
HOOPS: Cavs interview Lakers assistant Shaw
Lakers assistant Brian Shaw met yesterday with the Cavaliers about their coaching vacancy. The 43-year-old Shaw has spent five seasons on Phil Jackson‘s staff in Los Angeles. A 14-year NBA veteran, Shaw is also considered a candidate to replace Jackson if the 11-time champion retires.
* Steve Kerr, who left the Suns earlier this month after nearly three years as general manager, agreed to rejoin TNT as a game analyst starting with the 2010-11 season.
ETC.: Lance: This is my last Tour
Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong announced that he is making his final appearance in the Tour next month.
* Blake Cooper allowed three hits in eight-plus innings, moving South Carolina within a win of its first national title with a 7-1 victory over UCLA in Game 1 of the College World Series finals last night in Omaha.
