LeBron James will be short one adviser come Thursday’s meetings with the Nets, Knicks and other teams invited to the Akron, Ohio, area, The Post has learned.
According to an NBA source, William Wesley, known as “Worldwide Wes,” is expected not to be by James’ side during the separate pow-wows. No reason was given, though Wesley recently became a coach’s agent and placed his first client, Tom Thibodeau, as head coach of the Bulls.
There’s been speculation Wesley, a longtime associate of James’ agent Leon Rose, would prefer James join Thibodeau in Chicago. Thibodeau is expected to be one of the Bulls’ representatives.
There was also a Yahoo! report this week stating a slight rift growing between Wesley and James’ longtime manager, Maverick Carter.
Wesley, known as one of the league’s biggest behind-the-scenes power brokers, has been longtime friends with Allan Houston, who is part of the Knicks recruiting team.
Wesley huddled with James, along with Rose and Carter, for nearly a half-hour in the Boston visitors locker room after the Cavaliers were eliminated by the Celtics in the second round of the playoffs.
