Award-winning singer-actress Jennifer Hudson has broken her silence about the brutal murders of her mother, brother and nephew, saying the entire ordeal is a “blur.”
“It was surreal,” the “Dreamgirls” actress said on VH1’s “Behind the Music” Monday. “It was like I was outside of myself.”
In October 2008, Hudson’s mom, Darnell Donerson, 57, and brother, Jason Hudson, 29, were killed in the family’s Chicago home.
Her nephew Julian King, 7, was found shot dead in a car several days later.
“I prayed when I’d get up in the morning and prayed before I lay down at night,” the Academy Award-winning actress said. “If I didn’t, I would wake up depressed.”
William Balfour, the estranged husband of Jennifer’s sister Julia, has since been charged in the case.
Hudson said her 11-month-old son with fiancé David Otunga “reminds me of my nephew” and that being a mother helps her remember her own mom.
“In so many ways I channel her because she was such a great mom,” Jennifer said.
