The city today started soliciting proposals for the lease and development of an 130,000-square-foot property at the Bush Terminal Complex in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
The Bush Terminal Complex is bounded by 41st Street to the north, 51st Street to the south, 1st Avenue to the east and Gowanus Bay to the west. The redevelopment of this property is part of the city’s Sunset Park Vision Plan, which outlines a strategy for creating a modern industrial waterfront.
“Building upon and maintaining the city’s working waterfront is a high priority of this administration,” said city Economic Development Corporation President Seth Pinsky. “The Sunset Park Vision Plan established a strategy and this [request for proposal] is an important piece of its implementation. Most importantly, this site represents a great opportunity to create new blue-collar jobs for the region.”
The site is an M3-1 district, which permits heavy manufacturing and industrial uses. The RFP seeks a development with an industrial, manufacturing, distribution, and/or fabrication facility. The site is currently occupied by three building, which will be demolished. In addition, EDC said it would undertake significant infrastructure upgrades and replacements to directly improve the site.
There is already a successful industrial community in Sunset Park, which is home to the Brooklyn Army Terminal, South Brooklyn Marine Terminal and Bush Terminal.
