For employees of more conservative firms who want to let the facial fur fly, stylist Damien Miano suggests a weekly regimen that creates a perfect, close-cropped beard.
The process begins each Saturday, when the would-be hipster/conservative must shave his mug completely. Let the beard grow Sunday, says Miano, and by the Monday morning meeting, there will be the right amount of growth that says “I have a beard” instead of “I’m too hung over to shave.” Three days later, pull out the clippers and trim it down before heading to work.
Miano cautions that each day you must keep the outer edges under control. Shave a small space between your nose and your mustache, and be sure there’s a whisker-free zone between the neck and chest. Maintaining a beard is more work than commonly understood, he notes.
“Most guys don’t have it in them,” he says. “If you’re using this as the lazy way out, it’ll show.”
