CAIRO — In a new audio message, al-Qaida’s No. 2 vowed revenge for the imprisonment of Pakistani female scientist convicted of trying to kill U.S. interrogators in Afghanistan.
Ayman al-Zawahri threatened new attacks on the United States for the 86-year sentence handed down to Aafia Siddiqui.
“We will fight you until the day of judgment,” he said in a message that appeared on extremist websites Thursday.
He called on Pakistani Muslims to join the mujahedeen because “there is no honor without jihad.”
Siddiqui was convicted of two counts of attempted murder after she snatched up an assault rifle while in custody and opened fire on her U.S. interrogators.
