Brooklyn is finally getting its own Shake Shack.
Danny Meyer’s popular burger joint is set to open its first borough location early next year at the Fulton Street Mall in Downtown Brooklyn, sources told the Post today.
Shake Shack is getting prime space at the mall, replacing a spot on the corner of Fulton and Adams Street occupied Tony’s Famous Pizza, which is being relocated within the mall.
After hearing the news, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz said “It’s about time!”
“I’m thrilled about Shake Shack,” he said. “I’ve been pitching Danny Meyer to come to Brooklyn for years, and have always felt that Fulton Mall would be a great location—right in the heart of Brooklyn’s new 24/7 live-work city center, with its diverse retail, new hotels and expanding arts and cultural corridor.
“Of course, Shake Shack would be just the appetizer en route to the main course—a full-service Danny Meyer restaurant in Brooklyn.”
The Shake Shack earlier this year toyed with opening a concession at Brooklyn Bridge Park on Pier 1 but an agreement could not be worked out.
The Fulton Mall is in the midst of major changes, including streetscape improvements and with new big name businesses like H& M and SYMS moving in. Macy’s is also considering making improvements to its ground floor and exterior, sources said.
