Voters to Democrats: it’s payback time

The American people sent a resounding message to Washington (“An Election of ‘No’,” Editorial, Nov. 3).

The public ripped the House away from the Democrats and clearly made a threat to those in the Senate. Speaker Nancy Pelosi is now a minority member of the House. So is Rep. Charlie Rangel.

As the Marines say, hoo-rah — for justice!

Pelosi can no longer protect Rangel. He will have to face the music on his own, and his power has been reduced to that of a AA battery.

I sincerely hope our president will pay attention to America’s message. If he doesn’t, he will be a one-term president.

Washington now realizes that the Tea Party has sharp teeth. Ignore it at your own peril.

Pelosi whined that she and the Democrats were not getting the credit they deserve.

Well, the voters did not want to disappoint. She and her party got exactly what they deserved, and in two years, President Obama will get more of the same.

We’re taking back our country and our Constitution. Good riddance!

Though many of us may be rejoicing, these election results are by no means a rubber-stamp approval of the GOP’s way of doing business as usual.

Maybe now, for the first time since Republicans’ loss of power to Sen. Harry Reid and Pelosi, they will take the people seriously.

This “Election of ‘No’ ” means no more spending, no more bailouts and no tax hikes across the board. Bringing fairness back is what the American public expects — having our leaders acting like leaders instead of children and solving our economic woes.

Americans want jobs, not a socialist welfare state.

Obama has seen his policies and leadership repudiated at the polls. He had better wake up and stop excluding those who have different opinions from helping to bring positive change.

Government works best when people exchange ideas and work together for the common good. Too much spending, inadequate cooperation with his opponents and broken job promises have eroded Obama’s first term.

His lesson should be simple to comprehend: Focus on job creation during the next two years, or join the unemployed millions.

Since Congress has such low approval ratings among the American people, one wonders whether the Republican gains in the House and Senate are as important as the GOP claims they are.

If Republicans don’t accomplish anything meaningful in the next two years, their political gains may be short-lived.

The American people want concrete results, not meaningless rhetoric.

The good news is that Republicans have re-taken the House, so now there is at least a glimmer of hope that things will be better as they go up against Obama.

The bad news is that New Yorkers voted in the same old corrupt politicians they always do, so it’s gridlock and mayhem as usual in Albany.

I am not overly excited about the prospect of Minority Leader John Boehner becoming House Speaker.

Boehner pays lip service to reducing the cost and scope of government, but he was apparently asleep when a Republican president set out to balloon the deficit and increase the extent to which government is the provider of first resort.

Is he a man of the people who truly believes in getting the cost of government under control? If he and his followers are not able to deliver on reigniting the economy and lowering the unemployment rate, he will be a one-term speaker.
