A Ground Zero hero’s huge Norway spruce will become the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree today.
A crowd of about 100 neighbors cheered yesterday in upstate Mahopac, as a crane carefully lifted the travel-readied, 74-foot tree off the property of Peter Acton, an FDNY firefighter assigned to Engine Co. 79 in The Bronx, and put it on a flatbed truck for the 50-mile ride into Midtown.
Acton, a 12-year fireman, was among the hundreds of first responders who rushed to Ground Zero on 9/11.
Acton (pictured with his family) said his 75-year-old Norway spruce is a perfect specimen, and once relocated, will be full all the way around.
