Hot dog eating champion Takeru Kobayashi – of New York City’s Nathan’s Fourth of July fame – is ready to take some lightning-fast bites out of a pizza to try to break a world record.
The Japanese gobbler plans to down a 12-inch pie on Saturday in Brooklyn.
Kobayashi, a professional eater, has won Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest six years in a row.
But he wasn’t allowed to compete last July because he refused to sign an exclusive contract. Kobayashi was arrested when he stormed the stage after the Nathan’s event, but charges were later dismissed.
The world pizza-eating record is 1 minute, 45 seconds set in New Zealand in 2008.
Guinness requires a knife and fork to be used – a tad more elegant than the annual mouth-stuffing hot dog spectacle on Coney Island.
