Long Island man convicted in DWI crash that killed brothers

MINEOLA, N.Y. — A Long Island man has been convicted of criminally negligent homicide and drunken driving in a 2009 crash that killed two brothers crossing a busy highway.

James Farr faces 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison when he is sentenced on Jan. 14.

He was convicted Friday by a Nassau County jury following a three-week trial. Farr was acquitted of more severe charges of manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter.

Farr was driving on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow in August 2009, when he struck and killed brothers Thomas and Joseph Occhiogrosso.

All three men had been drinking at the same bar before the crash, although Farr and the brothers did not know each other.
