David Lee’s successful return to Madison Square Garden will come at a price.
Fox Sports reports that the Warriors forward will miss two weeks from an elbow infection that came about after the tooth of the Knicks’ Wilson Chandler scraped Lee’s elbow on Wednesday night. Lee bandaged the arm and finished the game in Golden State’s 122-117 win, but the injury turned out to be more serious than expected and he will require surgers to clean out the elbow.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Lee woke up the next day in tremendous and went to a Chicago hospital — with the Warriors there to play the Bulls — for an X-ray.
“I know, I know, it’s an elbow scratch, but I was in the worst pain of my life,” Lee told the paper, adding the cut was so deep he could see bone.
Lee said during the X-ray, blood was pouring down both sides of the machine.
“Now I know what it feels like to give birth,” Lee said. “… I’m a pretty good interview when I’m on Vicodin, huh?”
Brandan Wright, who started in Lee’s place in a loss to the Bulls, is expected to continue to play in place of the former Knick.
