WASHINGTON — “This is an American obligation,” Mayor Bloomberg declared here yesterday as he joined the state’s congressional delegation and more than 100 first responders and their families to lobby for the federal 9/11 health-care bill.
“We cannot wait any longer for action on this legislation,” the mayor said, after meeting with three possible swing-vote Republicans: — Sen.-elect Mark Kirk, of Illinois, Sen. Susan Collins, of Maine, and Sen. Scott Brown, of Massachusetts.
Supporters said they needed two GOP votes to enact the measure.
