A disapproving mother told Russian airport officials her daughter was a suicide bomber intent on blowing up a passenger jet in a desperate bid to stop her flying away to marry, RIA Novosti reported Wednesday.
Police were scrambled to intercept the unsuspecting bride-to-be as her plane was prevented from taking off from Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport.
But when authorities realized the tip-off was bogus they traced the anonymous call back to the woman’s mother. The 56-year-old was arrested on suspicion of making a false terror report, the state-run Russian news agency said.
“Her daughter recently fell in love with a Moroccan citizen and was planning to get married to him and move to Morocco,” said a police spokeswoman.
“The woman was against the marriage and did not want her daughter to move abroad.”
