Carlos Beltran has finally made good on his offer to pay for former teammate Jon Niese’s offseason nose job, ESPN reported Monday.
Beltran reportedly sent the Mets left-hander $10,000 to cover the rhinoplasty procedure.
The former Mets outfielder joked last season he would be willing to cover the cost of the cosmetic surgery after he overheard Niese talking about getting it done.
Niese told reporters in February, four months after the procedure, he had sent his former teammate the bill, which Beltran promised to pay when the Cardinals and Mets squared off in spring training.
The hefty price tag for Niese’s new nose likely did little damage to Beltran’s bank account after the 34-year-old signed a two-year, $26 million deal with St. Louis this offseason. He was traded by the Mets to San Francisco last July.
Niese had the surgery in October and showed up to Mets camp with a slightly straighter looking nose. More importantly, Niese told reporters he was breathing easier following the procedure, which helped correct a deviated septum.
Niese also said the surgery helped him lose 10 pounds in the offseason because he was able to breathe easier while working out.
