Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz just won’t give up on her lie. She is on tape saying that the Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren had complained that “what Republicans are doing is dangerous for Israel”. When faced with Oren’s categorical denial of those sentiments, Schultz denied that she had said what she said. Then when faced with recorded evidence she continued to diseemble and lie, attacking the reporter from the Washington Examiner, Philip Klein, who had exposed her in the first place.
“They ripped one line out of what I said and left the rest so it appeared as though I was saying something that I wasn’t. In fact that line is the opposite of what I always say, which is, and I will say again: It is dangerous to turn Israel into a political football as the Republicans are trying to do. It’s dangerous for Israel because to suggest that there is any separation on Israel between the two parties, any daylight harms Israel in the eyes of its neighbors, our neighbors and its enemies. That’s what I said and what I always say. We know that there is little we agree on in Washington but strong bipartisan support for Israel and President Obama’s stellar record, it’s important to make sure that that is clear and consistent message and not put love of party before the love of Israel.”
But wait one minute Debbie because the only ones putting “daylight” between party and Israel are the Democrats.
Let’s look at the tape of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa trying and failing to honestly pass an amendment to the DNC platform to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The amendment was needed because the platform had been changed and Jerusalem removed. Villaraigosa railroaded the delegates by declaring the amendment passed even while loud booing can be heard and there clearly wasn’t the required two-thirds majority needed to pass the resolution.
As Schultz might say “this is dangerous for Israel.”
UPDATE (8:08pm): Mark Hemmingway now tweets that Schultz is sticking with her “it just didn’t happen that way” obfuscations. When asked to react to the shocking spectacle of the voice vote to change the party platform, chultz had a doozy: “There wasn’t any discord.”
