John Liu’s road trip

If shameful Shelly Silver is welcome in Charlotte for the Obama re-coronation, who would have thought that there’s a New York pol who’s too dirty to get an invite?

As The Post first reported in May, city Comptroller John Liu — the city’s No. 3 elected official — was denied a delegate seat by the New York state Democratic Party.

No wonder: The Dems didn’t want Liu in their midst when they traveled down South — maybe because of all the federal agents who’ve been been bobbing along in his wake for three years, investigating a string of alleged campaign-finance and conspiracy crimes.

Instead, Liu and a city staffer (and perhaps that delegation of G-men, too?) traveled to Taiwan and South Korea this week to meet with some bigwigs of Asian finance.

The official trip is something of a homecoming for Liu, who was born in Taiwan — but it doesn’t really do much to cover over the deep trouble he’s created for himself back home.

Indeed, his spokesman said the comptroller was “heartbroken” to be left out of the fun in North Carolina — but maybe this time away from the office will give Liu some needed perspective.

The Dems obviously know he’s finished; the feds maybe do, too — everyone sees it except Liu himself.

Time to get the picture, John.
