‘Cop-shooter’ boasted to police while in custody: court papers

Hero cop Kevin Brennan confidently strode into court this morning and faced down a Brooklyn thug, accused of nearly killing him.

Brennan stared down suspect Luis “Baby” Ortiz, who allegedly shot the officer in January and then ran his mouth after being arrested.

Ortiz, who was also arraigned for murder in a separate case, boasted he was getting busy with a lady friend when the shooting occurred, court documents revealed.

He couldn’t stop talking when he was in the back of a squad car following his arrest for the Brennan shooting.

“What did I get snatched up for? I don’t know what this is all about, I was in the crib all day, getting some p—y,” Ortiz allegedly told cops inside a patrol car, 45 minutes after he was arrested.

Later, Ortiz allegedly bragged to an officer in Central Booking: “You know how we do it in the Bushwick Houses … my alibi is airtight.”

“They will never find the gun,” Ortiz popped off, according to cops. “They won’t get me on anything. When I get off I am coming back to the 90 to tell you to f–K off … you won’t tie the gun to anything.”

Unfortunately for the loudmouthed Ortiz, the gun was found and later tied to the New Year’s Day murder of a drug dealer, sources said.

An indictment unsealed today against Ortiz hit him with murder in the first degree, attempted murder and aggravated assault on a police officer for allegedly shooting Brennan in the Bushwick Houses on Jan. 31.

Defense attorney John Burke said Ortiz was: “Not guilty to all charges in the indictment.”

The .38-caliber handgun used in the New Year’s Day robbery and murder of drug dealer Shannon McKinney is the same weapon used to blast Brennan, according to law enforcement sources have said.

In court today, Ortiz kept his face turned down and didn’t acknowledge two young women who came to support him.

They declined to comment.

Brennan, since promoted from officer to detective, was accompanied by his wife and several cops in court today. The broad-shouldered cop declined comment.
