Under the BQE: Addressing Infrastructure Challenges
The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) offers a mixed legacy to the neighborhoods it bisects. Through a participatory process, “Under the BQE,” a project of Architecture for Humanity New York, working with neighborhood partner Myrtle Avenue Revitalization Project, seeks to address neglected pedestrian and traffic safety conditions below the elevated BQE along a 17-block corridor of Park Avenue in Brooklyn. Project coordinators Elisa Holland and Shan Jayakumar will share the results of the team’s efforts in a discussion about neighborhood outreach, community-oriented design, street planning and pro bono design services. They will be joined by a panel of community organizations with experience in grassroots environmental and infrastructure advocacy. 8-10 am. $10. The Center for Architecture, 536 LaGuardia Place.
