INSIDE THE MATCHUPS
YANKEES: Hughes may have righted his road struggles in his previous two starts away from The Bronx. In wins at Baltimore and Boston, he went a combined 13 1/3 innings, allowing just two runs. For the season, though, he’s 5-8 with a 4.34 road ERA. Hughes struggled in his last start. Given a big lead to work with, he allowed four runs in five innings in a home win over the Blue Jays.
TWINS: A reliever in three seasons in Arizona, Vasquez is making his fifth appearance and start for the Twins. The numbers aren’t pretty. He’s yet to make it out of the sixth inning, and has allowed 15 walks in 20 innings. In his last start, he allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings in a loss at the Indians.
