The 4-year-old son of a Manhattan surgeon was found dead in a Westchester condo yesterday — allegedly killed by his mother amid a bitter custody battle, a report said.
“A family member came to help the mother move from the apartment and saw something wrong,” a law-enforcement source told the Journal News. “When police showed up, they found the mother sitting in the [bed]room with the baby, pretty much catatonic.”
Manuela Maria Morgado, the ex-wife of the boy’s father, noted city orthopedic specialist Tim Reish, was later charged with murder and held without bail, cops said.
The pair had been fighting over custody of the youngster. It’s unclear how the boy died, but “it’s nothing obvious,’’ the law-enforcement source told the paper.
The source added that Morgado, 46, left notes suggesting she had killed the boy and may have then tried to kill herself. She was hospitalized in police custody and is likely to survive.
“It’s very tragic. It didn’t look like anything was going on with [her],’’ a next-door neighbor in Mamaroneck told The Post. “The child was so adorable.’’ Mamaroneck Mayor Norm Rosenblum added: “You just think, ‘How bad can things get to potentially take the life of a child?’”
