A real-estate pal of Bernard Kerik testified yesterday about loans he made to the former police commissioner to help buy a Bronx apartment at the center of a perjury trial.
Developer Nathan Berman said he gave Kerik several checks totaling $28,000 to help buy a Bronx apartment in 1999 that was later renovated by a construction company with alleged mob ties.
Several years later, Berman said, Kerik interceded on his behalf when he bought 20 Exchange Place, a downtown residential skyscraper.
Kerik’s failure to report the loan helped get him sent up the river in 2008.
Kerik is expected to testify in the perjury trial of construction company owners Frank and Peter DiTommaso, who are accused of lying to a grand jury about paying for renovations to Kerik’s apartment.
