JORDEN and Jamal: the names have a nice ring to them. We visualized wedding invites and personalized napkins… But when we sent the 23-year-old teacher and 26-year-old cinematographer to Lotus Blue in TriBeCa neither were up for a wedding band. Will Jamal be the subject of his own rom-com or does Jorden need to teach him about romance?
He said:
When we met, Jorden was shy, so five minutes into the date, I tried to loosen things up. Fifteen minutes in, she still seemed to be nervous. After about 25 minutes, I had to ask if she was nervous. The whole time I felt like I was interrogating her.
We talked a bit about music. She said she bought the last Kanye West album on vinyl, but was still so standoffish. In fact, it was borderline jarring, and the date was filled with silences.
Lotus Blue was really nice. I had the grilled striped sea bass, which was prepared well. I’d definitely go back there to dine, but as for Jorden? She is nice and ambitious, but I don’t need to see her again. I wish her well.
She said:
Jamal was shorter than I thought he’d be, but other than that, he looked exactly like the picture sent. I was feeling rather reserved since it was a first meeting, and I wasn’t sure how it would go. Admittedly, I was very tired from the day, so my energy wasn’t at its highest.
We had a pretty nice conversation about Kanye and music, in general, but nothing really flowed smoothly. It felt as if we had just met at a grocery store.
It was pretty clear for both of us that there was no connection or vibe. He seemed very serious, and I’m much more lighthearted. Since energy feeds off energy, it was a generally somber mood. He was nice enough, but did nothing for me.
