Slower China
China’s GDP slowed for the seventh straight quarter — expanding at 7.4 percent in the third period — while showing signs of a pickup in September.
Telus vote
Telus shareholders voted in favor of exchanging the telecom firm’s non-voting shares for common shares on a one-for-one basis, dealing a blow to stakeholder Mason Capital, which had argued voting-class holders should receive a premium.
Silk-y IPO
Dean Foods said the upcoming IPO for its WhiteWave Foods business, which sells Silk soy milk and Horizon Organic dairy products, should raise as much as $320 million.

American Express posted a third-quarter profit that matched analysts’ estimates. Net income climbed 1 percent to $1.25 billion, or $1.09 a share, from $1.24 billion, or $1.03, a year earlier.
