Scherzer is coming out after 98 pitches. He was on a strict pitch count. The Yankees actually have a chance to do damage to this mediocre Tigers bullpen.

Scherzer strikes out Martin. That’s nine. Still not hits for the Yankees.

Fielder tries to duplicate the feat and instead strikes out on three straight pitches.

Dirks doubles to deep center and CC is gone. In comes Cody Eppley. That’s not what you need from your ace, especially given the offensive struggles.
Garcia grounds out to short. Inning over. But the Yankees have some catching up to do — and they don’t yet have a hit.

Cano flies out to center. Looks like he put a good swing on it. At this point, that’s a good step for the Yankees and him.
Scherzer strikes out Teixeira swinging at a high fastball. Six Ks for the righty.
And Ibanez strikes out too. Make that seven Ks. Yankees don’t have a hit yet.

Cabrera lines out to right.
Fielder singles to right. That’s a playable ball for Cano.
Young walks. Good at bat. Sabathia fears him a little bit right now.
Peralta flies out deep to left. He just missed that ball.
Dirks grounds to first, it takes a weird hop and Teixeira can’t handle it. Everyone is safe — bases loaded.
Garcia grounds it up the middle, right over Sabathia’s glove. Nunez can’t make the play. Garcia is safe at first and Fielder scores. 2-0 Tigers.
Laird flies out harmlessly to right field and the bases are left loaded. The Tigers get just one.

Russell Martin flies out to center and Brett Gardner grounds out to second.
Eduardo Nunez is safe on Fielder’s error at first. One on with two outs.
Ichiro walks on a very close pitch. Two on now and the Yankees have a chance here.
Scherzer freezes Swisher with a fastball on the outsider corner. Inning and jam over.

Andy Dirks singles to center. CC’s breaking balls aren’t breaking all that much.
Asivail Garcia bunts, but Teixeira cuts down Dirks at second. Garcia safe at first. One out.
Gerald Laird pops out to Cano in short right field. Two outs.
Garcia steals second. Jackson walks. First and second with two outs.
I know it’s still early, but CC doesn’t look nearly as sharp as he did in Game 5 against the Orioles.
Infante grounds out to first and Sabathia is out of the jam.

Mark Teixeira flies out in foul territory to left field. Comerica is a big park. Lots of room in foul territory.
Raul Ibanez strikes out swinging and so does Chavez. Nice start for Scherzer.

Austin Jackson leads off against CC Sabathia and pops out to second.
Omar Infante grounds to Eric Chavez at third. Chavez is slow picking it up and making the throw. Infante beats it out. Infield hit.
Miguel Cabrera flies out deep to left field. Just missed it.
Prince Fielder singles into left field, Infante to third.
Delmon Young lines a single to right. He kills the Yankees. Infante scores. 1-0 Tigers.
Sabathia gets Jhonny Peralta swinging. That’ll end the inning, but the Tigers take an early lead, which is huge against the pressing, back-against-the-wall Yankees.
