Against the 49ers last week, Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks was admittedly too cautious.
Can’t really blame him: it was his first game after three weeks of being inactive with a sore left knee that resulted from compensating for a bum right foot. So he wasn’t exactly the lead to the Giants’ highlight film package. But the game served its purpose and Nicks is very anxious to get back.
“I feel a lot better than then,” Nicks said today. “I was still a little cautious in that game about it. I really just had one practice then got in the game. I had three weeks off. I wasn’t really expecting too much out of that game. I just wanted to go out there and get back.”
So this week, Nicks has had three days of practice, including today. He looks and feels better about himself. So do his teammates.
“He’s looking healthy, running routes out there. He looks good,” said fellow WR Victor Cruz.
“He’s fought through everything. Every day, he comes back out and he tells me he feels good about it and so he gets probably half the reps. So he’s excited and anxious and hopefully it will be consistent (and) physically, there will be no setbacks,” said coach Tom Coughlin.
So far, so good. At least through three practices.
“It’s feeling better. I feel like practicing on it is the start (and) the only way to break it back in and get it better so I took that approach this week and I got the green light to do it so definitely it’s getting better,” said Nicks, who indicated he was talking about “both” his foot and knee.
“This week I had a full week of practice so I expect it to be better. Next week will be better. I just want to keep getting better.”
