The city is investigating possible overbilling by a Florida-based company that was awarded an unusual no-bid contract worth millions of dollars to tow and store thousands of cars and boats stranded by Hurricane Sandy, sources said.
The audit by the city, which refused to give The Post a copy of the contract or reveal its terms, is specifically eyeing “the storage of the cars” under the contract with AshBritt Inc.
“The issue is whether they submitted proper bills to the city after the storm. It’s about the invoices for the storage fees after vehicles were towed,” a city official said.
A subcontractor hired by AshBritt, DDK Auto Corp., told The Post that AshBritt has also failed to pay it up to $4 million in storage fees.
AshBritt general counsel Jared Moskowitz did not respond to questions.
